Yearly Goals for Spanish Classes

 

 

K - 2 (On Early Dismissal Wednesdays)

 

  • We will learn songs, play games, listen to bilingual stories and color pictures related to certain Spanish letters and words​.  The students will be introduced to small and basic Spanish words and phrases through all of these activities while having fun.  The students will also be introduced to Hispanic culture as we approach certain festive days.      

 

3rd Grade

 

  • We will learn the sounds of the letters in the Spanish alphabet.   (This is the first step in laying out a firm foundation for reading and writing Spanish in grades to come.)

 

4th Grade

 

  • We will review the sounds of the letters in the Spanish alphabet and learn to read blends.   (This is the second step in laying out a firm foundation for reading and writing Spanish in grades to come.)

 

3rd & 4th Grade

 

  • We will learn Spanish and bilingual songs, play games that involve Spanish words and phrases, and listen to bilingual stories that will expose the students to more vocabulary.   

 

  • We will learn vocabulary and simple phrases related to the following basic topics: Introductions and Greetings, Classroom Objects, Family and Friends, Clothes, Colors and Patterns, Shapes and Sizes, Numbers (cardinal 1-10 and ordinal 1-5), and the Calendar (days of the week and months of the year).

 

  • The students will also  learn more about Hispanic culture as we approach certain festive days.      

 

5th Grade

 

  • We will review the sounds of the letters and blends in the Spanish alphabet, and will learn to read and sound out words in Spanish.  

 

6th Grade

 

  • We will review the sounds of the letters and blends in the Spanish alphabet, continue to read and sound out words in Spanish, and learn to read and write sentences in Spanish.

 

  • We will introduce verb conjugation in the present tense.  We will use verbs that go along with each unit.

 

  • We will do a group class presentation at the end of each unit

 

5th & 6th Grades

 

  • We will learn vocabulary and simple phrases related to the following basic topics: Community, Nature, Meals and Restaurants, Household items/ Furniture, Parts of the Body and face, Health, Numbers 1-50, Measurements and Math Terms.  

 

  • The students will also continue to learn more about  Hispanic culture as we approach certain festive days.    

 

7th Grade

 

  • We will review the sounds of the letters in the Spanish alphabet, continue to read and write words and sentences in Spanish.  

 

  • We will learn and review vocabulary and simple phrases  related to the following basic topics: Family, , School / Classroom instructions, Numbers 1-100, Calendar, Geography of Spanish Speaking Countries, Colors, weather, greetings, time and expressions for like and disliking.


 

  • We will introduce simple grammar skills and continue to conjugate verbs in the present tense.  We will use verbs and grammar skills that go along with each unit such as: Noun and adjective agreement, possessive adjectives, several common verbs, adverbs of frequency and descriptive adjectives.

       

  • We will learn to read, translate, and answer questions on short paragraphs.

 

  • The students will also continue to learn more about  Hispanic culture as we approach certain festive days.    

 

  • We will do a group class presentation at the end of each unit.

 

8th Grade

 

  • We will review the sounds of the letters in the Spanish alphabet, continue to read and write words and sentences in Spanish.  

 

  • We will learn and review vocabulary and simple phrases related to the following topics: House and Home, Sports and Leisure, Holidays and Culture, Food, Stores, Shopping and Clothing.

 

  • We will introduce several parts of speech, learn how to form simple commands and questions, and learn other simple grammar skills.  We will also introduce stem changing verbs, and continue to conjugate verbs in the present tense.  We will use verbs and grammar skills that go along with each unit.

 

  • We will learn and review vocabulary and simple phrases related to the following topics: School, Classroom, Weather, Likes and dislikes, Describing People, House, Sports and Leisure, Holidays and Culture, Food Stores, Shopping and Clothing.

 

  • We will continue to Read, Translate, and Answer questions on short paragraphs.

 

  • We will do a group class presentation at the end of each unit.
